Now I was brought up that any statement had to be based on facts. This was the perfect reason for a “field” visit to Bath when we could wander the various cafes and gather more data! The weather being cold and brisk was a further justification, if any were needed.
Bath was historically known for being a place to socialise and it seems that the city has just moved with the times. Here is a collection of photographs of the coffee shops we saw.
Books and coffee are a good combination. See my previous page where the selection of books was an open invitation to having a detailed discussion of current events https://wordpress.com/block-editor/post/inspireretirenow.com/619
Also important is to have a laugh at life. In Bath they had these 2 advertising boards next to each.
So finally what makes a good cafe? the atmosphere is key and here the company and socialising is what its all about.
One hears however about the epidemic of loneliness in the UK. I wonder if
a good cafe with the suitable atmosphere is a good place to start a change. Would holding a discussion about some of the following topics help?.
- We are all encouraged to declutter, however sales in the shops are declining. Are the two linked?
- There is a desire to get items as cheaply as possible yet more manufacturing has moved abroad to achieve this. Wages in the UK have been relatively unchanged for 10 years. What should we do?
- We are encouraged to recycle yet there is a whole industry dedicated to packaging. Are the rules and processes of recycling clear enough?. What should we do about exporting abroad our recycling?
Or should meetings of the Solo Sock Society be held in the local coffee shop?https://wordpress.com/block-editor/post/inspireretirenow.com/572
I hope that this brief article will encourage and inspire you. After all you may have retired now but the opportunity to enjoy life has not changed.
