The saying “its just not cricket” came to mind as I passed a local village cricket green
So this was where the village cricket team used to play- no longer
Along with this, the 4 villages pubs have decreased to just 1 and that has now been called a bar and seems more like a coffee bar. The local shop selling cricket equipment still carries on but one wonders for how long.
It was all so different when there was a true village spirit. Look at the War Memorial to the two world wars. They had a keen sense of spirit then and anyway it would “all be over by Christmas”.
So let us not forget what community means at its most profound level. It may be a coronation or it maybe something more basic
We owe those people a real debt
