Photography-Water, Water…

I visited a city recently and saw these eye catching water spouts.

Then I saw the last one and the old saying came back to me

Water Water every where and all the boards did shrink.

Water water every where and not a drop to drink.

Of course, now I get it, the supply of water could be affected by supply problems of purification chemicals as the result of imminent changes to a range of regulations.

Sadly these are all empty wine bottles, and  the continued supply of wine is definitely in doubt unless we drink UK wine- as they did in the time of the Romans.

The quote

Water Water every where and all the boards did shrink.

Water water every where and not a drop to drink.

comes from the poem for the Ancient Mariner who describes the problems they encounter having shot an albatross and so being becalmed for a long time

The poem suggests that shooting the albatross brought bad luck- the lack of wind and so preventing any progress on their journey.

As a result the Mariner responsible was made to wear the dead albatross around his neck.

A current political spokesman offered a Complete denial

See stanza 9 in part 2 of the Poem the Ancient Mariner.  This was said to have been inspired by James Cook’s second voyage of exploration 1772-1775 around the South Seas and the Pacific Ocean.
